Colors of Hope - Part 1

She wore a red pretty laced frock. It wasn’t new but she carried it as if it was the best thing happened to her till today.
Her frail structure, brown skin did not make for that Barbie doll look but in her eyes, one could see the unsaid cuteness, enough to weigh down million such Barbie’s.
She carried a sketch pen set in hand, 12 of them. It was her birthday gift.
After much cajoling, Amma had agreed for this one.
Amma is the maid who works with every third household of our society.
How she does the household chores of many houses in 6 hours everyday is a question to ponder. But the fact is she does & Amma taking a leave is dreaded by all home makers of our society.
It sounds tough on Amma but what could the only bread winner of a family of 4 children with an ailing mother-in-law do to support themselves.

Today is Kanya’s birthday, Amma’s youngest daughter. And she is so happy with her sketch set gift. Kanya is 6 years of age, was 2 when their father left them to find happiness in another house & a second wife. Since then Amma’s hard work & determination has kept the family going. Amma is determined that all her children get an education. Kanya will also join the school this year. Yes it’s late for her age but it was monetarily tough for Amma to do this in the gone three years.
